frequently asked questions

other useful information

Acupuncture is an ancient form of medicine that has exited for thousands of years! It involves the insertion of sterile, disposable needles (as thin as a hair) into the skin at specific points on the body. Acupuncture is safe and effective, and is often used as an alternative treatment, or in-combination with other treatments for specific health concerns.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, ‘qi’ (pronounced ‘chee’) or vital energy flows throughout our bodies via a network of meridians, similar to a highway system.

When this energy flows smoothly, we are in a healthy state. However, when there are any disruptions or blockages in the flow of ‘qi’ (ex. caused by an injury, congestion/stagnation, or just plain stress), this can lead to a ‘traffic jam’ of our energy.

This affects the processes and functions that lie upstream and downstream of the blockage, leading to issues in our digestion, sleep, immune system, etc.

Acupuncture helps clear these blockages, which allows for our bodies to heal properly!

Acupuncture should not be painful. You may experience a tingling or slight aching sensation where the needles are inserted. Most of the time, people find our treatments to be quite relaxing and would meditate or even fall asleep!

Acupuncture has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a valuable healing modality for many conditions, including:

  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Digestive Concerns (gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea)
  • Back Pain and Muscle Pain
  • Fertility
  • Women’s Health, Menstrual Regulation and Menopause
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Injury Rehab
  • Labour Induction support
  • Smoking Cessation support
  • Sleep Challenges
  • Allergies
  • Coughs and Cold
  • And much more!

For acupuncture to have its optimal and lasting benefits, we recommend regular treatments over the course of 4-6 weeks. We typically start with 2-3 treatments for the first 2-3 weeks, then weekly treatments for another few weeks. Of course, this can vary depending on the individual and the condition itself (ex. more chronic or complex conditions will take longer).

This is why it’s so important to make it affordable!

Quiet & Healing Space

The RCAC is a shared community space, and we aim to maintain a relaxed and healing environment for everyone. Although there is some exchange during the intake, we ask everyone to be as quiet as possible (hushed voices encouraged). If you would like to speak with the practitioner in greater depth about your concerns, please let them know, and we can arrange for a separate private appointment.

Zero Tolerance Policy

We ask all our clients to be respectful of others when visiting the space, and we have a zero tolerance policy for discrimination and/or harassment of any kind. We are committed to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all clients and practitioners.

Safety Guidelines

Please let us know if you may be pregnant, or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, as these conditions will require specific modifications or extra caution.

Cancellation Policy

Out of respect for our practitioners and other clients, all appointments require a 24 hr notice for cancellation or rescheduling. Please note that cancelling or re-scheduling within 24hrs of your appointment is subject to a cancellation fee of 50% of your appointment fee.

The last thing we want is to charge avoidable fees, so kindly ensure to provide notice for all appointment changes.

Additionally, more than 3 no-shows for your scheduled appointment (without notice) will result in limitations to your ability to book future appointments online.
